Bachelor's Degree in Psychology with a minor in Youth and Adolescence from Pittsburg State University. Master's of Science in School Counseling also from Pittsburg State University.
Work Experience:
In 2013, while working to finish my degrees, I worked as an After School Care worker at George Nettles Elementary in Pittsburg, KS, and working one-on-one with a child who has Autism. In 2015 I got a second job as a Mental Health Assistant, working one-on-one with children with ADHD, ADD, ODD, and Autism in the classroom setting. After finishing my practicum and internship in 2018 I worked as a substitute teacher at St. Regis Academy in Kansas City, Missouri and as their Extended Care Coordinator. This will be my third year at St. Ann Catholic School and since last year I split my time between Resurrection Catholic School and St. Ann Catholic School.
Teaching Philosophy:
As a school counselor I believe that all students can learn if given the proper supports and the opportunity to do so. All students should feel that they are safe and respected in the school to help them develop and grow. My goal is to create a comprehensive school counseling program that is centered on students’ needs, focusing on their social/emotional, academic, career, and spiritual needs. Focusing on those needs will help prepare them to become responsible and productive members of society. Through my individual sessions, group lessons, and classroom lessons I will be able to teach students how their thoughts, emotions, and actions are all connected and to help remove those obstacles that deter them from reaching their highest potential in all areas, which helps them thrive socially, academically, spiritually, and physically. It is my responsibility as a school counselor to work collaboratively with the St. Ann staff, administration, community, parents, and students to create the best environment for each student.
Passions and Interests:
I love spending time with my family, friends, and husband, traveling, reading, and watching the Chiefs and Royals play.
Favorite Scripture:
"Clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience" - Colossians 3:12
